ABOUT THE AREA

The Dundee area is home to many historical individuals and businesses. As the settlers came in the early 1800’s, a lottery was held to determine who would name the town. Alexander Gardinar won, and named the town “Dundee” in honor of his Scottish hometown. Over the decades, many Eastern European immigrants settled in the area, making it highly robust in industry and trade.

The Anvil Club
In 1954, ten Dundee area businessmen created a private dinner club where they could enjoy the best in food and service. The Anvil Club continues to provide an enjoyable dining and social experience.
D'Angelo Natural Spring Water
Initially, the 15 acre parcel of land was purchased as a residence until Anthony D’Angelo discovered an underground natural spring.
Haeger Potteries
This former brickyard manufactured the unique “Dundee Bricks” that were used to build not only local homes and businesses, but many buildings in Chicago after the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.
Immanuel Lutheran Church & School
From the midst of our nation’s Civil War in 1862, a hearty band of German Lutherans gathered together to form Immanuel Lutheran Church just to the east of the Fox River in the Dundee area.
Train Depot
The site where the Visitor’s Center stands today was once a railroad depot. Before it became a bike path, the Fox River Trail was part of the Chicago-Northwestern train line.
